Hello Flight faithful,
First off, let me say I hope all is well with everyone, and that God is still strong in your everyday lives.
Now for the basketball side of things….It’s time for the mid-season check in with yours truly, Numero Uno. Well, we started off the season with 3straight losses, a couple of them being games that we definitely should have won. The overtime thriller I spoke about in my last update was especially a hard loss to swallow. Nevertheless we did go on a 3-game winning streak to get right back even at .500, with a record of 3-3.
Within the last month, we have acquired 3 key veteran additions in the form of a big man and two wing players…respecitively; Cordell Jeanty, Fred Meeks, and Brandon Armistead. All of them are solid veteran guys with a good head on their shoulders and have fit into the team great! Our chemistry is building each day, and we are getting better each day along with it.
We had our toughest test to date Saturday, 6/4/11, vs. the Jacksonville Bluewaves in Jacksonville. They have a roster chalk-full of talent and we knew they would be a tough match-up. We lost an exhibition game against them pretty badly earlier in the season (20 points), but with some clever coaching schemes instilled by Coach King, we got right back after them in Jacksonville, Florida. Unfortunately, we lost by 1 (112-111), but we learned how good we actually were as a team. I am fully confident that we will build during the rest of this season and finish strong.
After losing another tight one to Gainesville (90-87) the following day after our battle with Jacksonville, we find ourselves in 3rd place our division and one game outside of a playoff birth in the CBL. We head to Birmingham, Alabama on Friday to take on the 4-2 Birmingham Sabers. We’re going to make a push, and I’m confident that we will take care of business. We just need our fans to come out and cheer us on on June 18th and June 19th. Both of those games are must wins to ensure we catch 2nd place and make our playoff hopes a reality!
Until next time everybody, God is love and God bless you all…
